Dorze and Chencha

Spend one or two days experiencing the lifestyle of the Dorze and Chencha tribes. The Dorze tribe are famous throughout Ethiopia for their traditional cotton weaving pottery.

Our tours include a visit to the home of a local potter where you will be amazed by their talents, as they make a pot in front of your eyes.

You will have an opportunity to visit the local village to see the traditional bamboo homes (designed like an elephant head), help prepare bread freshly made from the false banana tree and meet the community weavers. Market days are on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. See the locals selling their farming, weaving and pottery goods. You can also try the local drinks, such as honey based Teij.

At the end of the day, stay overnight at a local lodge with stunning views of both lakes. Enjoy then campfire and take part in the local singing and dancing. In the morning, wake up early to see the glorious sunrise.

All entrance fees are paid directly to the community for their own projects, for example, immunisations for the children. Our tour will be designed to meet your needs and includes transport, guide, entrance fees and hotel booking.
